Type of venue: Concert hall with historical and architectural significance

Year built/founded: 1871

Architect/Construction company: Designed by Henry Young Darracott Scott and Francis Fowke/Lucas Brothers.

Capacity: 5,272 seats

Public or private ownership/management: Owned by Corporation of the Hall of Arts and Sciences and managed by an independent executive team lead by James Ainscough OBE.

No of events per year: 390 

Primary functions/events hosted: Classical music concerts, rock and pop concerts, ballet, opera, film screenings with live orchestral accompaniment, sports events, awards ceremonies, school and community events, charity performances, and banquets.

Architectural highlights and innovations: 

- Elliptical domed roof: Made of wrought iron and glass, allowing for natural light and contributing to the venue's renowned acoustics.

- Galleried tiers: Providing excellent sightlines and a sense of intimacy even in the highest seats.

- Organ: A magnificent four-manual instrument built by William Hill & Sons, one of the largest pipe organs in the world.

- Grand Foyer: An elegant space adorned with mosaics and sculptures.

Technological advancements and integration:

- Installed in 2019, the world's largest single-room speaker system by d&b audiotechnik with over 465 individual speakers. Most impressively it was installed without interrupting any of the scheduled events.

- Digital projection screens: Enhancing film screenings and other multimedia presentations.

- Live-streaming capabilities: Bringing the magic of the Royal Albert Hall to audiences around the world.

Famous performances/events:

- The BBC Proms: An annual eight-week summer festival featuring classical music concerts.

- The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix to Luciano Pavarotti and Beyoncé.

- BAFTAs and the Royal Variety Performance.
